Katie Evans aka Hart Variations handmakes each of these pieces in her home studio in Oakland, California. She is an accomplished multi-media artist. Her creations are the epitome of craftsmanship paired with a modern style reflecting her love of natural history.
This work is composed of very thin glass that encases a Blue Morpho Butterfly wing between soldered silver(oxidized to a dark but polished finish) using the Tiffany method. Both sides of the wing are on diplay.
Katie acquires her wings ethically from butterfly farms which support the natural population.
The Blue Morpho is more brilliant than words can describe. One of the largest butterflies, the blue iridescent color has a luscious metallic sheen that contrasts beautifully with the opposing brown side. This classic geometry of the triangle frames the shimmering blue in this necklace, catching the light with each movement.
The triangle focal piece measures 1.25" x .75", is constructed with lead-free silver solder, oxidized, and polished, and comes with a 17" long nickel-free gunmetal chain.
